Principal Robert Pagel
Grades:  4-8

I was born in Watertown, Wisconsin, attending St. Mark’s Lutheran School and then Northwestern Preparatory School, (later to become Luther Preparatory School) both in Watertown. I was blessed to have most of my family living near me in Watertown so I have many happy memories spent at the homes of grandparents, aunts and uncles. My grandpa owned Pagel’s Bakery in Watertown so a stop at the bakery for a delicious donut following church on Sunday is a favorite memory of mine.

After graduating from high school in 1974, I headed to Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota, where I met my future wife, Susan Ubel. We dated throughout our college years and were married following our graduation in 1978. I had earned my degree of Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and God lead me to my first teaching job at Calvary Lutheran School in Bellevue, Washington, just outside of Seattle, where we had a gorgeous view of Mount Rainier--on a clear day! At Calvary, I was the principal, the teacher of grades 4-8, taught Sunday Bible Class, and led Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. I spent nine years at Calvary, and it was during those years that God blessed Sue and I with first a daughter, Stephanie, and then also twin sons, Marty and Ben. Each summer during those years, I attended Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, WA, and earned my Masters Degree.

In 1987, I received a Call to teach at St. Paul’s. Our family said good-bye to friends in Washington and moved to the Quad Cities. Since that time , I have been the Principal of St. Paul’s and am the teacher of the upper grades. I have loved the opportunity to teach so many children through the years, including teaching my own three children. Spending each day teaching children, especially teaching God’s precious Word to children, makes me feel so very blessed!

My hobbies include collecting sports autographs and watching professional baseball and football. I’m a huge fan of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers, though I also love to watch the Chicago Bears and the QC River Bandits. I enjoy being a new grandparent and look forward to more grandchildren in the future.
