OUR CHURCH
St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church is a proud member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran
Synod (WELS). We are a conservative Lutheran Church which recognizes the Bible as the inspired Word of God in its entirety.
We believe the Bible is innerrant and wholly trustworthy in every teaching.
As a confessional Lutheran church we
believe and teach that the Book of Concord is an accurate expression of Biblical truths. The Book of Concord is the collection
of Lutheran statements of faith which was published in 1580 in German and in 1584 in Latin.
Some of our core
doctrines (teachings) and practices include:
The Trinity: The Bible teaches that there is one God (Deuteronomy 6:4)
who is three persons: FATHER-SON-HOLY SPIRIT (Matthew 28:19).
Sin and man's need of salvation: All of mankind fell
into sin which is a breaking of God's law (Romans 5:12) and are unable to save themselves through works or effort (Romans 3:28) and
hence are in need of a savior to save them. Mankind's only Savior is Jesus who is man and God and who died on the cross for
every person (John 14:6, 1 John 2:2).
Salvation by faith alone: Jesus clearly taught that the existence of faith (trusting
belief) in Him alone (John 3:16; 5:24) guarantees eternal life.
The message of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection is
the Gospel.
The efficacy of the sacraments: How does one receive the Gospel? People receive salvation through
God's Word (Romans 10:14) and the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. Baptism and Holy Communion are NOT actions
we do for God nor are they merely symbolic actions; they are actions through which God Himself removes sin, bestows
and strengthens faith and nourishes the new man. (1 Peter 3:21; Matthew 26:28).
HISTORY OF ST. PAUL'S CHURCH
St. Paul's began as a mission project of the WELS in November 1943 during
WWII. Services were first held at a rented store front building just a few blocks away from today's sanctuary.
The congregation officially incorporated May 21, 1944. Three years later on Thanksgiving Day 1947 groundbreaking services were
held at the present location of the church. Construction of the church began with the church basement where services were first
held. Today's sanctuary was begun on April 29, 1959 and completed November 29th of that same year.
St. Paul's has always had a deep committment to Christian education and a Lutheran school was built behind the congregation.
In June 1960 the school graduated its first class.
Today St. Paul's Lutheran has an average Sunday
morning worship attendance of about eighty people. Our family style church continues to proudly support our parochial shool.
